A Drop of Light from Zion
Update 55 – Strength and Faith — The Deeds of the Guardians of Life
“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” (Deuteronomy 31:6, KJV)
Shalom and blessings, beloved friends around the world—lovers of the God of Israel and the people of Israel.
“And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.” (Psalm 90:17, KJV)
On September 18, 2025, we visited one of the IDF Home Front Command bases to bless the soldiers for the New Year.

This unit is unique in that it serves not only Israel’s civilians—it also assists around the world. They have helped victims of earthquakes when homes collapsed and people were trapped under the rubble. They have served extensively within Israel, and also aided civilians beyond Israel’s borders.
At present, part of the unit is serving in Gaza, where they are setting up shelters and tent areas and even clinics to assist civilians. Their work is difficult, exhausting, and life-threatening. At Sabra, we see this as a mission of mercy and a supreme effort.
As in the past, we stand by them now as well—supporting soldiers in various ways. On this visit we heard an urgent request: about 100 soldiers need warm clothing for the very cold nights where they are stationed, even as the days are very hot. They are reservists who have been away from their families for over 160 days. We are praying and seeking donors to help them so they can fulfill their mission.
We also help the families of lone soldiers who truly need assistance—and we do so on an ongoing basis.
For our visit we brought a New Year blessing gift: a wicker basket containing apples, a pomegranate, a jar of honey, a small bottle of sweet wine for Kiddush, and a festive letter explaining the meaning of Rosh Hashanah from the Bible—together with a greeting from the Sabra team and from believers around the world.
Some of the commanders and soldiers—new to the unit—heard from us for the first time about believers worldwide who love the God of Israel and the people of Israel. They said: “We knew that most of the world is against Israel, but we did not know there are communities everywhere praying for us and supporting us.”
How wonderful to open their eyes and show them there are those who love and stand with them. This reminds us of the LORD’s words to Elijah:
“Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.” (1 Kings 19:18, KJV)
If then there were seven thousand who remained faithful, today—thank God—there are many, many multiples of believers who belong to the Lord of all the earth. He who dwells in the heavens looks upon and sees each one.
And as the prophet Isaiah says:
“Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.” (Isaiah 35:5, KJV)
Thanks be to God who opens the eyes of the blind and reveals His grace in every generation.
So you, beloved believer—be filled, be filled with faith and hope; there is reward in heaven for every seed of love and mercy you sow.
Prayer:
Our Father in heaven, Shield of Israel and our righteousness, we pray before You: guard the soldiers of Israel who bear such a heavy burden. Grant them courage and strength, health and steadfastness. Fill their hearts with joy and their homes with peace. Bless also their families—especially the lone soldiers—that they lack nothing. May we all merit a year of mercy and protection, and may we hear the trumpet-call of salvation. Amen.
May the New Year be for you a year of protection and blessing, of love and health, and may the Name of the LORD shine upon you always. Just as the soldiers were encouraged by the blessing they received—so may you be filled with faith and hope, knowing that you are a faithful partner in this holy work.
From the House of Good Deeds (Sabra House), the Land of Zion, and the City of Jerusalem,
Your brother in Israel,
Mordechai ben Yaakov
